Worcester, Mass. - November 1, 2022 - The Springfield College women's soccer program was bested by Clark, 1-0, in double overtime on Tuesday night in the NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship Quarterfinal on at Granger Field. 

Fifth-seeded Springfield closes its season out at 8-7-1 and Clark will advance to the NEWMAC Semifinal with a record of 11-5-2. The Cougars outshot the Pride, 20-10, but only put four shots on goal in the contest. Springfield had eight shots on target in the match. 

Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) corralled three saves in the quarterfinal matchup, while Anabella White turned away eight shots. 

The score was blank through the first 45 minutes with each team finding shots on goal, but were met by Ryan and White, respectively. For Springfield, Ryan made a play on a header shot by Jamie Joseph at 27:53 to highlight the first half of action. The score remained 0-0 for the entirety of the second half as neither team could muster up a successful scoring chance. In the 89th-minute, Springfield made a final push for a game winner as Vasiliky Rizos (Southampton, Mass.) took a pass from the right side for a narrow shot, but clipped the post to push the game to the first overtime period. 

In the first extra period, again neither team could find an edge, which led to a second overtime. In the 104th-minute, Isabel Echeverry tracked down a ball and sent a cross over the defense for Siobhan Lounsbury to connect on a header shot to put the Cougars up 1-0. The Pride pushed to tie and received a pair chances late. Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.) strided into a shot that flipped high, then, Walker placed a pass to Kayla McGrath (North Adams, Mass.) for a straight away look, but White landed on it to close out the game and hand Springfield the quarterfinal exit.
