Box Score Wenham, Mass. – October 13, 2023 – The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up its first dual match win of the season as the Pride topped Gordon College by a 6-3 final in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.
Springfield caps its fall season at 1-1, while Gordon ends its non-tradition campaign at 0-3.
The Pride won two of three points in doubles play as Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, Mexico) teamed up with Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) for an 8-2 win at No. 2, while Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and Micah Matsudaira (Cornwall Bridge, Conn.) earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 heading to singles action.
Springfield earned points at four of six singles positions to end the match at 6-3. Villanueva Abad won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 over Carleton Riester and Thongbooncharoen defeated Joshua Noel, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4, while Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) eased by their opponents at No. 5 and No. 6 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-1, respectively.
Kimoto and Ezekial Hall played at tight match at No. 1 singles, but It was Hall, who came out on top for the Fighting Scots, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7.
Springfield will open its Spring season on Monday, March 11 against Bethel College (Minn.) in Orlando, Florida.
