Men's Basketball Caps Semester With 77-64 Road Win at Emmanuel

Boston, Mass. – December 12, 2023 – Powered by career-high point totals from both Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) and Joe Hoch (South Ozone Park, N.Y.), the Springfield College men's basketball team picked up a 77-64 non-conference road win at Emmanuel College to close the fall semester.

Springfield improved to 3-5 on the year, while Emmanuel dropped to 4-6 this season.

Evely led the Pride with 22 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Hoch tallied 21 points, three boards, three assists and three blocks. John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.) chipped in with ten points and four steals and Zeke Blauner (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) contributed nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Donte Pope guided Emmanuel with an 18 point, 13 rebound double-double in the setback.

Springfield raced out to a 9-3 lead four minutes into the game following a layup from Hoch and never looked back in the win. Up by just three at 20-17 with six minutes to play in the first, the Pride put together a 12-2, four minute run that featured four points from Evely and was capped on a layup by Hoch for Springfield's largest lead of the stanza at 32-19. Springfield took a nine point differential into the break, 35-26.

Emmanuel cut its deficit to just five early in the second following a three point play from Cameron Snowdon, but Springfield answered with a 10-2 spurt that rejuvenated the Pride's advantage back to double digits at 48-36 after a fast break layup from Evely. From that point on, Springfield maintained a double digit cushion for the remainder of the game and saw its largest lead of the game come at 75-58 (17 points) with 1:02 to play following a layup from Hoch and a dunk from Evely.

Springfield shot at a 45.2-percent clip from the floor tonight and tallied 24 points off 17 Emmanuel turnovers. The Pride also notched 46 of its 77 points in the paint and 15 points on the fast break.

Springfield will return home for the start of the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic on Friday, December 30 against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 1:00 pm inside Blake Arena.
