Wenham, Mass. – December 9, 2023 – The Springfield College women's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back as it raced past host Gordon, 76-49, in a non-conference tilt on Saturday.
Winners of their last seven outings, Springfield is now 8-1 on the year.
Rachel Vinton (Rutland, Mass.) stuffed her stat sheet with 14 points, five steals, and five assists in just 20 minutes of action, while Jaélen Daubon (Hyde Park, N.Y.) added a season-best 14 points. Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) tallied 12 points and seven rebounds and Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) just missed out on a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds and nine points.
Vinton cashed in on triple from the wing just over three minutes into the game to give the Pride a quick 10-0 lead, which would balloon into a 26-11 edge heading into the second quarter after Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) canned a triple of her own. The Pride connected on 10-of-19 from the field in the first stanza, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.
A fastbreak bucket from Vinton with 4:25 remaining in the half allowed the visitors to double up Gordon, 40-20, and a Czeremcha putback in the waning seconds pushed Springfield ahead 47-23 at the half.
Midway through the third, Laughlan scored inside to make it 58-28 in favor of the Pride and a trifecta by Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) early in the fourth gave Springfield its largest lead at 71-39. The Pride would go on to hold its fourth opponent this season to below 50 points as it cruised to the 76-49 triumph.
Springfield's final game of the first semester will take place on Monday night when it travels to take on nationally-ranked Rhode Island College at 7 pm.
