Box Score Boston, Mass. - February 11, 2023 - The Springfield College men's basketball team fell to Emerson, 99-71, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Springfield is now 6-17, 3-9 in conference. Emerson improved to 14-9, 9-3.
Zander Robinson (East Hartford, Conn.) scored a team-best 11 points in 28 minutes off the bench as 12 different student-athletes scored in the setback. Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) chipped in nine points, four rebounds, and three assists for a Springfield squad that was 30-for-67 (45%) from the field, but hit just 4-of-22 from beyond the arc. Four players scored in double figures for Emerson, with Nate Martin tallying a game-high 19 points off the bench.
It was a close start to the game as a Daryl Costa (Providence, R.I.) pulled the Pride within 9-7 at the 13:49 mark. However, Emerson would put gain a 10-point cushion on a 12-4 spurt that was capped off by Martin's shot from range with 9:56 remaining that made it 21-11. Josh Hartley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) converted down low at 8:54 to bring Springfield back to within single digits at nine, but Emerson used an 18-6 burst to once again separate themselves from the Pride as the hosts ballooned their advantage into the 21 with 1:30 left on the clock.
After owning a 46-23 lead at the break, the Lions opened up the second half on an 11-0 run and never looked back as it pulled away with the conference victory. Emerson would can nine three-pointers in the second half en route to 53 points in the frame.
Springfield returns to Blake Arena for its home finale on Wednesday when it hosts Clark at 7 pm.
