Orlando, Fla. - March 13, 2023 - The Springfield College men's tennis team was clipped by St. Scholastica, 5-4,on Tuesday afternoon.
It marked the second time this Spring Break trip in Florida that the Pride was edged by a 5-4 margin as its record dropped to 5-4 this year.
Springfield was able to earn one point in doubles play thanks to the efforts of Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and Mike Kendrick (Watervliet, N.Y.) at the No. 2 spot, as they produced an 8-7 (6) win.
Thongbooncharoen was impressive in singles as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3, while at No. 5, Mateusz Czajka (Linkoping, Sweden) delivered a 6-2 win in the first set before his opponent retired. Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) would account for the Pride's final point on the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6. St. Scholastic was able to clinch the victory with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 triumph at No. 2.
On Wednesday, Springfield will take on Wisconsin-La Crosse.
