North Easton, Mass. - September 20, 2023  - The Springfield College men's tennis team was toppled by Stonehill, 6-1, in their season opener on Wednesday afternoon. 

The match was played with the Division I scoring format and Stonehill earned the doubles point as they swept all three matches.  The Pride's No. 3 team of Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) battled tough in a 7-5 setback. 

Thongbooncharoen was clipped at the No. 4 singles spot, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, while Gomulka took the first set at No. 6, 6-3, before falling 6-1, 6-3. Springfield's lone point of the day came from Zach Taub (New Windsor, N.Y.) thanks to his impressive 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5. 

Springfield will travel to the Connecticut College Invitational this weekend.
