Box Score Springfield, Mass. - September 23, 2023 - Springfield College senior Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.) produced all the offense needed this afternoon as the Pride topped Clark University, 2-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer contest on Brock-Affleck Field.
Springfield improved to 4-1-2 overall and to 2-0-0 in the NEWMAC, while Clark was handed its first defeat of the season today and now sits at 5-1-1 and 1-1-0 in league play.
Walker registered the second multi-goal game of her career this afternoon - the first for her since October 1, 2022 at the Coast Guard Academy. The senior tucked the ball into the lower right corner of the net in the 18th minute off a feed from sophomore Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) and then doubled Springfield's advantage just four minutes later as she ripped the ball into the upper right corner of the net after receiving the ball from sophomore Natalia Moturra (Scarsdale, N.Y.).
Healy registered her NEWMAC leading fourth assist of the season in this afternoon's game.
The two goals allowed by Clark was the most all season for the Cougars. Springfield also tallied only the second and third goals that Clark has given up all season as the Cougars had not surrendered a score in 501 minutes dating back to the season opener againt Nichols on September 1.
Springfield held an 11-9 edge in shots, while Clark had a slight 6-5 margin in corner kicks.
Pride keeper Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) made three saves between the pipes and moved to 2-1-2 for Springfield with her second shutout of the season.
Springfield will step out of conference play for a matchup with RPI on Wednesday, September 27 at 7:00 pm on Brock-Affleck Field.
