Brunswick, Maine – September 29, 2023 – The Springfield College men's tennis program saw six student-athletes compete on day one of the 2023 ITA Division III Regional Championship this afternoon, which was hosted by Bowdoin College.

Sophomore Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) was the lone victor for the Pride in the singles bracket as he topped Calvin Van Dyke of Wheaton College, 8-5, before ultimately falling to Rex Harrison of Amherst College in the round of 32 by a score of 8-1.

Junior Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) was clipped by Jackson Codd of Bowdoin College, 8-1, sophomore Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, Mexico) fell to Tommy Harrison of Brandeis University, 6-0, 6-4 and junior Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) dropped his opening round matchup to Julia Wu of Middlebury College, 6-0, 6-0.

In the doubles bracket, sophomore Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) and junior Micah Matsudaira (Cornwall Bridge, Conn.) were edged by John Pope and Brandon Fletcher of Trinity College, 8-4.

The Pride will return to action next weekend as they host the Springfield Invitational on Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8.
