Box Score Hartford, Conn. - September 6, 2023 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over Trinity on Wednesday night in a non-conference tilt by the scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-15.
The Pride is now 4-0 on the season, while the Bantams dipped to 1-1.
Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) made her season debut in impressive fashion with a match-best 14 kills on a .400 hitting percentage to go along with five aces, three digs, and two blocks. Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.), who entered the match leading all of Division III in blocks per set, added six more to her season total and tacked on six kills, while Ally Townsend (Hummelstown, Pa.) registered 10 digs, and Megan Kirtyan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) combined for 27 assists and 12 digs.
Trinity opened up a 15-12 lead to start the match, only to have back-to-back attack errors by the hosts allow the Pride to take a 19-18 lead. With the score knotted at 23-all, Voltz and Donahue teammed up for a block for set point, and the Bantams then committed their ninth attack error of the frame as the Pride took the opening set. Donahue led the way with five kills in the set for the visitors.
Clinging to a 13-10 lead in the set, Springfield forced Trinity into a timeout at 17-12 following a kill by Voltz. After a sideout kill from Trinity, Springfield would eight of the final 10 points of the set to seal the 25-15 win as Olivia Gentry (Cincinnati, Ohio) put away her second kill of the set.
Voltz buried a ball in the middle in the early stages of the third to give Springfield a quick 5-1 advantage. The lead would balloon to 16-8 on a Trinity miscue and Springfield would coast to a 25-15 win as it hit .321 in the frame and limited the hosts to a .000 team hitting percentage.
