No. 7 Men's Volleyball Sweeps St. Joseph's

Patchogue, N.Y. – January 20, 2024 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team earned a straight-set win over St. Joseph's on Saturday afternoon.  The Pride traveled to Long Island where it picked up the 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 win.

The victory boosted Springfield's record to 2-1 on the year as it entered the match ranked seventh in the most recent AVCA Division III National Poll.

Sam Levinson (La Grange, Ill.) put away a match-best 10 kills on the right side, while Noah Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) registered nine kill on 18 errorless attempts on the outside.  Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) handed out 32 assists in leading Springfield to a .307 hitting percentage, Ricardo Ortiz (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) was credited with a match-best 10 digs, and the middle duo of Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) combined for 11 kills and 11 blocks. 

The Pride committed four attack errors in the first nine points of the match to go down 6-3, but would regain a 11-9 advantage after an ace from Ethan Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.).  Springfield would close out the set on a 12-3 push for the 25-15 win, with Ethan Weislo ripping consecutive aces for the victory. 

The second set featured six ties as it was back-and-forth before Springfield broke open an 8-8 contest with a 9-2 burst capped off by a Levinson kill.  Springfield would total 12 kills in the frame, including five from Levinson, to take a 25-17 set-victory. 

After a thunderous triple block from Cutter, Mulvaney, and Ethan Walters (St. Louis, Mo.) allowed the Pride to go up 5-2, the hosts would answer back to get within 8-7.  However, Springfield responded with five-straight points, featuring three consecutive kills from Noah Weislo, as its' lead grew to 13-7.  Springfield would account for 6.5 team blocks in the set in holding St. Joseph's to a -.032 hitting percentage en route to the 25-19 triumph. 
 
Springfield will return home to take on Eastern Nazarene at 7 pm on Wednesday evening.
