Springfield, Mass. – November 19, 2024 – The Springfield College women's basketball team was defeated by visiting Rhode Island College, 58-52, on Tuesday night in Blake Arena.

Springfield dipped to 2-3 with the setback while the Anchorwomen evened their record to 1-1.

Angie Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) registered 21 points and eight rebounds on the night for the hosts, while Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) contributed nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Springfield shot just 18-for-64 (28%) for the game, including 4-of-21 from deep.

RIC was paced by the efforts of Madison Medbury, who stuffed her stat sheet with 15 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.  Angelina Narolillo posted 13 points, nine boards, and four blocks, and Naima Bleou chipped in 11 points as she was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Finney sliced through the line to finish inside to give Springfield an early 8-2 lead just under three minutes into the game, but the visitors would answer back with a 12-2 surge over the next two-plus minutes as Nardolillo registered seven points to pace the way.  Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) scored the Pride's first field goal in over six minutes to pull Springfield within 14-12 with 64 seconds remaining as RIC would take a 16-12 lead after the first.

Medbury drilled a pull up jumper at at the 4:10 mark as RIC's lead grew to 26-18, but Czeremcha would account for six points down the stretch to pull the hosts within 28-24 at the halftime break.

Finney converted an acrobatic layup to give Springfield a 30-29 lead just over three minutes into the third, only to have RIC respond with a 10-2 burst over the next 3:47 thanks to eight points from Bleou.  With 8:52 left in regulation, Czeremcha converted a tough finish down low to cut RIC's lead to 42-40, but a Medbury floater in the lane with 3:08 on the clock allowed the visitors lead to grow to 52-44.  Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) answered with a triple from the wing, but RIC was able to hold on for the 58-52 win.

Springfield will continue non-conference play on Saturday when it stays in Western Massachusetts and travels to take on Amherst in a 1 pm matchup.
