Women's Volleyball Sweeps Babson To Wrap Up Regular Season

Babson Park, Mass. – November 9, 2024 – The Springfield College women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a straight-set win over Babson on Saturday afternoon by the set scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-19.

For Springfield, it marked first time since 2015 that Springfield has traveled to Babson and earned a three-set sweep.  After earning three victories this week, Springfield enters the conference tournament with a 21-6 record, including a 9-2 mark in conference play.

Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) totaled a team-best 14 kills to go along with a match-best 16 digs, while Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) produced 10 kills and seven digs.  Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) notched nine kills at a .533 clip in the middle and Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) was credited with 34 helpers.

With the score knotted up at 12 in the first, Babson used a 4-1 push to force the Pride into a timeout trailing 16-13.  Out of the break, Donahue would side out with a kill, and later facing an 18-16 deficit, Springfield would put together a 6-0 burst to gain a 22-18 lead following a kill by Billet.  Springfield would continue its momentum and seal the 25-20 win when Voltz put a ball away in the middle.

Springfield jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the second set on a kill from Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) and would have its lead balloon to 17-10 on a Babson miscue.  The Beavers would get within 23-19 as Springfield called a timeout, only to have Billet convert down the line for set point.   Two plays later, Donahue muscled her eighth kill of the set through the block for another 25-20 win.

Billet would rip a ball down the line in transition to give Springfield a 10-6 cushion in the third and an ace from Morgan Stafford (Corbett, Ore.) would force Babson into a timeout down 13-7.    The Beavers would get no closer than three points and Saelua and Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) teamed up for a match-sealing block in a 25-19 win.   Springfield would total 17 kills in the final set, with Voltz putting away six kills on seven errorless attempts.
