Springfield, Mass. – December 14, 2024 – Powered by double-doubles from both
Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) and
Angie Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.), the Springfield College women's basketball team downed Albertus Magnus College, 84-61, on Saturday afternoon in Blake Arena.
Springfield, which ends the fall semester winners of five straight, improved to 7-3, while Albertus Magnus dipped to 4-6.
Leary posted season-highs in both points with 26 and assists with six in addition to career-highs in both rebounds with 12 (seven offensive) and five blocks, while Czeremcha tallied 16 points, 12 rebounds and two steals on 8-for-10 shooting from the floor. Czeremcha notched her fourth double-double of the year, while Leary tallied her third double-double of the season for the Pride.
Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tied her career-high with 12 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench for Springfield.
Caitlyn Scott powered Albertus Magnus with 32 points in a 40-minute effort for the visitors.
As a team, Springfield scored 46 points in the paint and held a 57-33 differential on the glass. Springfield's 57 rebounds are the most for the program since the Pride pulled down 57 against Mount Holyoke on February 18, 2023. Springfield's 84 points today are also a season-high.
Springfield scored the first nine points of the game as Leary opened the scoring with a three point bucket off a feed from
Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) before Laughan, Czeremcha and Leary all finished in the paint for the early edge. Diamond White tallied the first points for Albertus Magnus, but a trey by
Kassidy Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) pushed Springfield's lead to eight at 17-9 before a jumper by Laughlan ended the scoring for the Pride in the quarter with the score at 21-12 through ten minutes.
Caitlyn Scott opened the scoring for the visitors in the second, but Springfield answered with a 13-2 run to balloon its lead to 18 at 34-16 midway through the stanza. The spurt featured five points from
Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.), four points from Hess and two points from both Leary and Czeremcha. A layup in transition by
Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) gave Springfield its largest lead of the half of 20 points, 43-23, before the Pride took a 43-26 lead into the break.
Springfield scored eight of the first ten points of the third and led by as many as 24 at 60-36 following a jumper by Laughlan before rolling to the 23-point win over the Falcons. The Pride shot a game-best 55.6-percent with ten converted buckets in the third.
Springfield will have two weeks off before welcoming Tufts University, Middlebury College and Ithaca College to Alden Street for the 2024-25 Fairfield Inn & Suites Enfield/Naismith Classic on December 31.
