Worcester, Mass. – February 10, 2024 - The Springfield College wrestling team produced three pins to fuel a 28-20 win at WPI on Saturday.
The Pride improved to 13-7 on the season and entered the meet ranked 25th in the most recent NWCA Division III National Poll.
After WPI opened the match with a decision at 125,
Gianni Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) delivered a pin in 1:40 at 133 and
Ryan Kozdra (Mahwah, N.J.) followed with a pinfall in 3:23 at 141.
Ty Stewart (Dracut, Mass.) tacked on a 5-0 decision at 149 as the Pride's cushion grew to 15-3, only to have the Engineers respond with a major decision at 157.
Myles Leonard (Waldwick, N.J.) registered Springfield's third pin of the afternoon as he needed 4:26 to put his opponent on his back. Facing a 21-8 deficit, the Engineers got right back into the dual with pins at 174 and 184, but
Casey Allen (Park Ridge, N.J.) stemmed the tides for the visitors with a 12-0 major decision at 197.
Ben Katz (Medford, N.Y) added an 8-2 decision at 285 to close out the match and conclude the 28-20 victory.
Springfield's final dual of the season will come next Friday night when it hosts Norwich at 7 pm.
