Springfield, Mass. – February 14, 2024 – The Springfield College women's basketball team eclipsed the 100-point mark for the third time in Division III program history as it tallied a 107-77 victory over Clark in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday evening in Blake Arena.
Springfield, which was receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com National Poll and ranked third in the most recent NCAA Division III Region II rankings, moved to 20-4, 9-1 in conference play while the Cougars fell to 15-9, 5-5.
The Pride set single-game program records for both three-point field goals made (14) and attempted (30) in the victory.
Jaelen Daubon (Hyde Park, N.Y.) netted a career-high 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-7 from deep, while
Rachel Vinton (Holden, Mass.) contributed 21 points, seven steals, and six assists.
Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) registered her 12th double double of the year with 16 rebounds and 12 points and both
Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) and
Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) each scored 14 points. Springfield's press turned Clark over 27 times in the game, resulting in 46 points for the Pride.
For Clark, Kailey Rios poured in a game-high 32 points as she made 11-of-14 field goal attempts, eight of which were from beyond the arc.
Finney leaked out for a tough finish in transition to give Springfield a 12-5 edge as Clark called for a timeout at the 6:26 mark. After a triple from Daubon pushed the lead to 15-7 just over a minute later, Clark used a 13-2 spurt over the next 2:36 as the visitors earned a 20-17 cushion on a step back triple by Rios. Rios would score inside for to push her first-quarter total to 15 points as the hosts led 25-19, but jumpers from Leary and
Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) would make it a 25-23 contest entering the second.
Vinton splashed in a triple from the right wing for what would be a precursor of the Pride's second quarter as it kick started a 21-5 run over the first 4:40 of the quarter to help the hosts lead balloon to 44-30. In the waning seconds of the half,
Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) cashed in on the Pride's eighth three-pointer of the stanza to send Springfield into halftime with a 57-41 advantage.
Czeremcha finished inside while being fouled at the 5:43 mark of the third to push the Pride's cushion to 67-44, only to have the visitors respond with an 8-0 push fueled by a pair of triples from Rios. However, Daubon answered with a three of her own and followed with a conventional three-point play to help Springfield's advantage grow back to 21 points. In the final 10 minutes of play, Springfield poured in 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting, with Finney's corner three at 5:13 being the record-breaking 14th trifecta in the game at 95-67. The hosts would lead by as many as 34 down the stretch en route to picking up the win in their regular-season home finale.
Springfield concludes the regular season on Saturday when it travels to face Emerson in a 1 pm conference tilt.
