Clermont, Fla. – March 14, 2024 – The Springfield College softball team produced 11 runs and 12 hits in an 11-0, five inning win over Mount Saint Mary's (NY) on Thursday morning before powering past Montclair, 7-1, to close out the day.
Springfield now sits at 7-1 and will wrap up its Florida trip taking on Cortland and Beloit on Friday morning.

Springfield 11, Mount Saint Mary's 0
Springfield's offense was powered by
Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.), who posted two hits, two runs and three RBI.
Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) and
Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) both tallied two hits and two runs, while
Emily Whelan (Hopkinton, Mass.) Went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
Alli Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) also registered a hit and two RBI in the victory.
In the circle,
Ashley Pugliese (Long Island, N.Y.) was dominant as she moved to 2-0 in the shutout win. Pugliese scattered four hits and struck out one in her third outing of the spring.
Springfield quickly loaded the bases in the bottom of the first before Puskas drilled a two run single over the head of the center fielder for the 2-0 lead. A bunt single by Whelan and a throwing error by Mount Saint Mary's allowed two additional runners to cross the plate as the score stood at 4-0 through one.
Olsen, who began the bottom of the second by reaching on an error, came around to score on a wild pitch and a second error for Springfield's fifth run. The Pride tallied six straight hits including an RBI knock by
Breannah McCann (Poway, Cailf.), an RBI double by
Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.), an infield single by Puskas and a bunt RBI single by Whelan to account for the 11-0 final.

Whelan led the Pride at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort to go along with three RBI while Olsen drove in a trio of runs as well. DeRosa earned the win in the circle, giving up one earned run off three hits in four innings of work before
Emily Gell (Trumbull, Conn.) tossed two innings of no-hit ball to close out the contest.
Ponticello got the scoring started off in the second inning as she charged a solo shot over the fence in right center field. The Pride tacked on three runs in the fourth as Whelan made the most of a bases-loaded opportunity as she connected on a two-run double down the line before Olsen delivered a sacrifice fly. After Montclair responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame with a sacrifice fly of their own, the Pride put the game away with three more runs in the fifth. With two outs and a runner on third, Whelan put down a run-scoring bunt and would later come around to score with Ponticello on a base knock down the line from Olsen.
