Springfield, Mass. – March 26, 2024 – The Springfield College men's tennis team fell to Roger Williams University, 5-4, on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Roger Williams improved to 6-3, while Springfield dipped to 2-5.
Springfield had a 2-1 edge coming out of doubles as
Marc Villanueva Abad (Morelia, Mexico) and Tatsuya Kimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan) picked up an 8-1 win at No. 1, while
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) and
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) earned an 8-2 win at No. 3.
Kimoto continued his success at No. 1 singles as he won by a 6-2, 6-2 final, while Gomulka earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5.
Roger Williams came from a set down at No. 6 singles, 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 and won in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 4. Tied at 4-4, John Baldyga defeated Villanueva Abad, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 as the Hawks topped the Pride, 5-4.
Springfield will travel next to Trinity College (Conn.) for a non-conference matchup on April 4 at 3:30pm.
