Quincy, Mass. - March 27, 2024 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team was reverse swept by Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday evening by the set scores of 13-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-10.
The Pride, which was ranked seventh in this week's AVCA Division III National Poll and appeared in today's initial NCAA Division III Regional Rankings, fell to 17-4.Â
Ethan Walters (St. Louis, Mo.) and
Giancarlo Carrion (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) each had 10 kills and three aces, while
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) was credited with 41 assists, 12 digs, and four blocks.Â
Trailing 11-10 in the first, Springfield benefitted from five attack errors by the hosts as part of a 7-1 push as the Pride opened up a 17-12 edge. Out of a Eastern Nazarene timeout, Springfield would close out the frame on an 8-1 push, highlighted by a pair of aces from both Carrion and Walters.Â
Consecutive aces by Carrion put Springfield in control at 7-3 in the second and the hosts would get no closer than two points before
Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) put a ball away in the middle for th 25-19 win.Â
Leading 7-5 in the third, Springfield surrendered the next seven points. The Pride would battle back to tie it up at 17, only to have the Lions convert for back-to-back kills as it held on for the 25-22 win. The hosts carried that momentum to earn a 25-18 win in the fourth and raced out to a 7-2 edge in the fifth to complete the reverse sweep.Â
Springfield looks to bounce back when it hosts MIT next Wednesday in its final match of the regular season at 6 pm.Â
