Springfield, Mass. – March 27, 2024 – The Springfield College softball team earned a pair of victories over Keene State on Wednesday afternoon at Potter Field. The games were originally scheduled to be played in New Hampshire, but were moved to Alden Street and the Pride played the games as the visitor, prevailing by scores of 8-0 in six innings and 8-2.
The wins boosts Springfield's record to 11-2-1 on the year.
Springfield will play next on Saturday when it travels to Boston to begin New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play versus Emerson.

Game One – Springfield 8, Keene State 0 (6 inn.)
Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) was sensational in the circle to earn the win as she struck out five and gave up just two hits for the shutout.
Springfield struck for the game's first run in the third as
Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) delivered a groun dout with the bases loaded to score DeRosa who earlier reached on a walk. In the fourth, Springfield managed to score four runs off five singles, highlighted by a two-run base knock to left from
Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.).
The Pride put the game away in the fifth, getting two runs, including one of a RBI triple from DeRosa. The Owls, who were hitless through the first five innings, started off the sixth two singles. However, DeRosa would produce a strike out and a game-ending double play to seal the win.
Game Two – Springfield 8, Keene State 2
Ashley Pugliese (Long Island, N.Y.) earned the victory as she tossed 4.2 innings of working, scattering five hits which led to a pair of runs by the Owls.
Springfield wasted no time plating runs in the second game as Pecchia laced a run-scoring double down the line in the first.
Emily Whelan (Hopkinton, Mass.) followed with a bunt single which allowed Ponticello to score after she previously produced a base knock of her own.
Keene State would answer with a run in the second after Grace Wallace tagged a solo shot over the left field wall.
However, Springfield would respond with five runs in the third to take control of the game. After starting off the frame with three-straight hits, including a run-scoring double by Ponticello, Springfield benefitted from
Emilia Santiago (West Hartford, Conn.) ripping a base knock up the middle to plate a pair. DeRosa would then account for the 100
th hit of her career, which came in just her 58th game, as she connected a on a RBI single to left to make it a 7-1 contest.
The Owls threatened in the fourth, getting a run back on a ground out and loading the bases with two outs. However, Pugliese came through with a strike out to keep it a 7-2 contest. Springfield would tack on the game's final run in the fifth as Pecchia lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring DeRosa who had previously belted a double into the gap in left center.
