Wellesley, Mass. - March 30, 2024 - The Springfield College women's tennis team was downed by Wellesley, 9-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) clash on Saturday.
The Pride battled tough in doubles competition with
Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) dropping an 8-5 decision at the top spot.
Three of the singles matches went to a third-set tiebreaker, with the Blue prevailing in all en route to taking all six singles points. Vettayawaikoon fell by a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 score at No. 1, while
Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) dropped a 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 match at No. 3 and
Alysa Elliot (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) being clipped a 4-6, 6-1, 11-9 decision at No. 4.
Springfield continues conference play on April 6 when it travels to face Wheaton.
