Game One: Springfield 15, Amherst 2 (5 Innings)

In the opener, Springfield tallied 14 hits and 15 runs and used a great pitching performance from Ashley Pugliese (Long Island, N.Y.) to earn the game one victory. Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) led the offense with two hits and four RBI, while Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) and Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) both drove in a pair of runs for Springfield. Pugliese tossed a complete game, scattered four hits, struck out four and allowed two runs (one earned) as she improved to 8-2 in the circle.

In the bottom of the first, Pecchia drove in Olsen on an RBI double to right before Gendron lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) for a 2-0 lead. Springfield added three runs in the second on an infield single by Ava Rainone (White Plains, N.Y.) and a two run knock by Gendron.

The offense then exploded for five runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to account for the 15-2 final. Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.), DeRosa, Gendron and Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) all recorded single RBI in the fourth, while Tessa Spingola (Rindge, N.H.), Pecchia, Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.) and Puskas drove in Springfield's runs in the fourth.

Pugliese loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, but got the last batter to fly out to left to finish the game one win.

Game Two: Amherst 3, Springfield 1

Amherst starter Dani Torres Werra pitched a complete game for the Mammoths allowing just one run and five hits to split today's doubleheader.

The Mammoths scored first in the opening inning on a single up the middle by Werra and added two in the top of the fourth on a single by Amadis Castro and a sacrifice fly from Heidi Li.

Werra allowed just four hits through the first six innings before Springfield scored its lone run in the seventh on an RBI double by Breannah McCann (Poway, Calif.).
