Women's Lacrosse Caps Regular Season With 21-2 Win at Mount Holyoke

South Hadley, Mass. – April 24, 2024 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse team capped its regular season with a dominant 21-2 win at Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Springfield, which is receiving votes in this week's ILWomen/IWLCA Women's Lacrosse Division III Coaches poll and sits second in the most recent NCAA Division III Region II rankings, finishes the regular season at 14-3 overall and 9-1 in NEWMAC play, while Mount Holyoke sees its season come to a close at 1-16, 0-10.

The 14 regular season wins for Springfield are the most since the 2015 campaign when the Pride went 14-2 heading into the NEWMAC Tournament. The nine NEWMAC wins are also a new program-high – the previous coming at eight prior to Salve Regina joining the conference this year.

Springfield's offense tonight was powered by first-year Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.), who tallied three goals and one assist for four points. Tonight marked Lalancette's eighth hat trick of the season and has now recorded three or more goals in four straight games dating back to April 13. Lilly Vey (Foxboro, Mass.), Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), Arielle Johnson (Pomfret, Conn.), Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.), Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) and Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.) all posted two goals apiece for Springfield.

With two goals tonight, Andresen recorded her 100th career point – this season alone, the junior has a career-best 44 goals to go along with four assists for 48 points.

Defensively, Kyana Alvarado (Westfield, Mass.) registered a team-high three ground balls, Gaydos led Springfield with two caused turnovers and Gaydos, Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.) and Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) all recorded three draw controls apiece. In net, Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) earned the win with seven saves in the first half for Springfield, while Colleen Browne (Westford, Mass.) posted four saves for the Pride in the second half.

Springfield scored the first eight goals of the game over the opening 14:31 of the first quarter. Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) began the scoring off a feed from Johnson before she fed the ball to Newton for a 2-0 edge. Lalancette then tallied three straight unassisted strikes to push the Pride's lead to five. Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine), Vey and Johnson rounded out the scoring for Springfield in the first.

Emi Bisson got Mount Holyoke on the board in the second before Neri and Andresen scored for the Pride as the score stood at 10-2 in favor of the visitors. Prior to the break, Mackenzie Hillman scored for the Lyons, while Neri and Isabella Cardaropoli (Three Rivers, Mass.) tallied goals for the Pride to make the score 12-2 at the break.

Springfield outscored Mount Holyoke by a 9-0 margin in the second half as the Pride used eight different goal scorers over the stretch to account for the 21-2 final.

Springfield, which earned the second seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, will host a NEWMAC quarterfinal against seventh-seeded Salve Regina University on Saturday, April 27 at 12:00 pm on Stagg Field.
