Worcester, Mass. - April 27, 2024 - The Springfield College softball team picked up a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) wins over Clark University on the road this afternoon.
Springfield won game one, 5-3, before securing the sweep with a 5-1 win in the nightcap. Springfield improved to 25-7-1 overall and to 13-3 in NEWMAC play. The Pride will return to action on Friday, May 3 with a NEWMAC doubleheader against Smith College.

Game One: Springfield 5, Clark 3
Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) led the way for Springfield with a 2-for-4 day with a run and two RBI. Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y,), Breannah McCann (Poway, Calif.) and Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) all tallied two hits apiece for the Pride in game one.
With runners on first and second and two outs in the top of the first, Puskas drove in DeRosa and Alli Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) for a 2-0 lead. Clark got single runs back in the first and the second to even the score before Springfield regained the lead in the top of the fourth.
In the fourth, McCann drove in Puskas, who reached first on an error by the third baseman, before Ava Rainone (White Plains, N.Y.) plated McCann on an infield single to push Springfield's lead to 4-2. The Cougars answered with a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth, but the Pride pushed across an insurance run in the seventh on a double by Puskas. An error by the center fielder allowed Lyndsay Donston (South Windsor, Conn.) to come across with Springfield's fifth run of the game.
DeRosa allowed two runners to reach in the bottom of the seventh putting the winning run at the plate, but got E. Spence to ground out to first, ending the game and giving Springfield a 5-3 game one victory.
DeRosa tossed a complete game and improved to 13-4 in the circle for Springfield.
Game Two: Springfield 5, Clark 1
Game two was scoreless until the top of the fifth when Pecchia drilled a two run homer over the fence in left center field. DeRosa began the frame by reaching on an error before Pecchia's third home run of the season gave the Pride a 2-0 edge. Before the inning was out, Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) doubled to center and Donston, who ran for Gendron, eventually scored Springfield's third run on a sacrifice fly by McCann.
After the teams traded runs in the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly by
Sarah Falcone (Monroe, Conn.) gave Springfield an insurance run in the top of the seventh making the score, 5-1.
Ashley Pugliese (Long Island, N.Y.) returned to the circle to finish her 11th complete game of the season.
