Arielle Johnson Records 100th Career Assist in 14-8 Women's Lacrosse Win at Coast Guard

New London, Conn. – April 4, 2024 – Springfield College women's lacrosse graduate student Arielle Johnson (Pomfret, Conn.) became the first student-athlete in program history to reach 100 career assists as she helped the Pride to a 14-8 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win at Coast Guard on Thursday night.

Springfield improved to 9-2 overall and to 5-0 in the NEWMAC, while Coast Guard fell to 7-4, 2-3.

Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) powered Springfield's offense with a career-high five goals, while Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) registered four goals and one assist for the Pride in the win. Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) led Springfield with five draw controls in addition to two goals, while Lily Vey (Foxboro, Mass.), Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.) and Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) all scored once to round out the highlights for the Pride.

A. Johnson not only reached 100 career assists in tonight's win, but also eclipsed 150 career points to become the 16th in program history to reach that milestone.

After Coast Guard opened the scoring with back-to-back goals about two minutes apart early in the first, Springfield ripped off 11 straight goals – a run that stretched well into the second – and took an 11-4 lead into the halftime break.

Lalancette tallied Springfield's first two goals of the match before A. Johnson found Newton for the 3-2 edge late in the first. Before the horn sounded, L. Johnson fed the ball to Andresen on the man-advantage as the Pride held a 4-2 lead after one.

L. Johnson scored three times in the span of six minutes in the second quarter and extended Springfield's lead to 8-2. Lalancette, Roy and Andresen all recorded unassisted strikes before Coast Guard got two late goals for the 11-4 lead at halftime.

Springfield's lone goal in the third came from L. Johnson, while Vey and Lalancette recorded goals for the Pride in the fourth en route to the 14-8 NEWMAC win.

Springfield held a 27-26 edge in shots, a 9-5 differential in ground balls and went 19-for-22 on clearing attempts.

Haley Moody (Wells, Maine) returned to the net for Springfield tonight and made a season-high 11 saves.

Springfield will return to NEWMAC play on Saturday, April 6 with a trip to Wheaton College for a 1:00 pm conference tilt.
