Men's Volleyball Splits With Hunter and Vassar

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – April 6, 2024 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team played its final Division III competition of the regular season on Saturday in a tri-match at Vassar College.  The Pride dropped a three-set match to Vassar in its opening match of the day before handling Hunter in straight sets.

The Pride now stand at 18-6 on the year. 
 
Springfield will conclude its regular season on Wednesday when it travels to take on Sacred Heart at 7 pm.

Sam Levinson (La Grange, Ill.)
paced the way for Springfield with a match-high 11 kills to go along with nine digs and four blocks, while Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) contributed six blocks and five kills in the middle.  Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) totaled 25 assists in the setback. 

After going down 20-15 in the first, Springfield scored the next five points as Levinson and Cole Kallick (Redondo Beach, Calif.) produced a block.  However, Springfield would commit three-straight errors to give the hosts a 24-21 lead as they held on for the 25-23 victory. Springfield had 13 kills, including three from Levinson and Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) in the first set. 

The second set featured nine ties and six lead changes as Springfield held a 23-22 advantage late in the frame.  However, a service error and two attack errors by the Pride allowed Vassar to take another 25-23 win.  

Vassar carried that momentum into the third, racing out to a 13-6 lead and holding Springfield to a -.034 hitting percentage en route to the 25-17 win. 
 
Springfield Hunter (25-17, 25-11, 25-21)

In the sweep of Hunter, Levinson put away 11 kills at a .471 clip and Mulvaney contributed 31 assists and four aces in leading Springfield to a .387 hitting percentage.  Rouleau chipped in seven blocks and Ricardo Ortiz (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) registered a match-high seven digs. 
 
After going down 7-3 in the first set, Springfield poured on a 7-1 run to regain a 10-8 edge on on a Mulvaney ace. The Pride would total six aces in the stanza, including four from Mulvaney, as it cruised to a 25-17 win behind three kills from Levinson.

Rouleau teammed up with James Browning (Santa Monica, Calif.) for a block to force Hunter into a timeout at 14-6 in the second. Springfield would ease its way to a 25-11 win as it hit .600 and held the Hawks to a -.074 hitting percentage.

Browning and Rouleau delivered a block at 7-3 in the third, only to have Hunter pull within 16-15. However, Levinson would put away consecutive kills to make it a three-point contest and Noah Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) recorded the Pride's 15th kill of the set to seal the 25-21 win.
