Springfield, Mass. – April 6, 2024 – The Springfield College women's track and field team finished second overall at the SC Outdoor Classic on Saturday afternoon on Blake Track with a team score of 219 points.
NEWMAC rival WPI won the meet with 241.50 points, while Keene State finished third with 70 points among the ten total teams which competed today.
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) had a strong meet for the Pride in the field events as she posted three runner-up finishes in the shot put (11.29m), discus (33.21m) and hammer (39.97m).
Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) was the lone victor for Springfield in the field as she posted a first place finish in the triple jump with a best leap of 11.02m.
Hannah Tirrell (Abington, Mass.) and
Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) earned second place finishes in their respective events as Tirrell posted a mark of 1.47m in the high jump, while Scott cleared 3.10m in the pole vault.
Jillian Barry (South Royalton, Vt.) and
Bailey McDevitt (Wakefield, Mass.) rounded out the highlights in the field as Barry finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 4.55m, while McDevitt took fourth in the javelin throw with a best mark of 33.18m.
On the track, Springfield tallied five runner-up finishes – two of which came in the relays. Individually,
Meghan Sullivan (Easthampton, Mass.) clocked a 42:30.47 in the 10,000-meter run,
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) posted times of 15.15 (prelims) and 15.65 (finals) in the 100-meter hurdles and
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) crossed the line in 2:32.66 in the 800-meter run.
Sofia Aguilar (Norwalk, Conn.),
Kaitlyn Doherty (Wilmington, Mass.),
Riley Hanover (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.) clocked a 51.78 in the 4x100-meter relay, while
Mackenzie DiDonato (Thomaston, Conn.),
Maggie Donahue (East Hampton, Conn.),
Maeve D'Arcy (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.) posted a time of 4:23.25 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Gwen Andersen (Pawcatuck, Conn.) earned a pair of third place finishes in the 200-meter dash (26.17) and the 100-meter dash (12.65), Brillo took third in the 400-meter dash (1:04.08), DiDonato took third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.48) and
Maddie Shea (Amherst, Mass.) finished third in the 1500-meter run (5:06.39).
Springfield will compete at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University next weekend.
