Paxton, Mass. – August 30, 2024 – A hat trick by first-year
Rosie Turbett (Wallingford, Conn.) in the span of less than five minutes powered the Springfield College women's soccer team to a 5-0 win at Anna Maria College to open the 2024 campaign. The Pride are now 1-0 on the season for the third consecutive year.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes of play, the Pride broke the draw when Turbett finished a pass from
Kate Minoudis (Columbia, Conn.) in the 61st minute marking her first collegiate goal. Turbett finished the hat trick just 4:24 later with goals off passes from both
Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.) and
Kristina Kyle (Watertown, Conn.).
Turbett's hat trick is the first for Springfield since 2021 when Kaleigh Dale accomplished the feat against Wheaton College on October 20. Additionally, in the national record books, Turbett's hat trick is the 14th fastest in Division III women's soccer history.
After Turbett's string of goals,
Natalia Mottura (Scarsdale, N.Y.) made it a 4-0 advantage for Springfield when she finished a pass from
Maddie Daigneault (Watertown, Conn.) in the 72nd minute before
Mia Salmon's (Arlington, Va.) first collegiate goal with under a minute to play concluded the five goal second half for the Pride.
As a team, Springfield outshot Anna Maria by a 69-0 margin and took ten corner kicks on the night.
Springfield will open its home slate on Wednesday, September 4 against crosstown rival Western New England at 7:00 pm.
