Waltham, Mass. - September 13, 2024 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team opened up the Brandeis Invitational with a three-set victory over Roger Williams on Friday night by the set scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-20.
Springfield improved to 5-2 with the triumph as the Pride strung together its fourth-straight victory as a team which is receiving votes in the most recent AVCA Division III National Poll.
Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) was dominant in racking up 17 kills at a .538 hitting percentage, while both
Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and
Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) each tallied eight kills in the middle.Â
Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) had 38 assists and three aces as the Pride's offense was particularly impressive, totaling 49 kills in just three sets, on a .374 team hitting percentage.Â
Kristen DeLorenzo (Syracuse, N.Y.) notched a match-best 13 digs.
Trailing 13-9 in the first, Springfield used a 10-2 push capped off by an ace from
Morgan Stafford (Corbett, Ore.) to surge ahead 19-15. Saelua would deliver four of her five first-set kills down the stretch to seal the 25-20 win.Â
Even at 8-8 in the second, another mid-set push, this time a 7-4 surge which featured another key ace from Stafford, gave the Pride a 15-12 edge. For the second-consecutive set, the Pride registered 17 kills as a team, which Donahue connecting on six kills.Â
In the third set, Donahue produced seven kills which matched the entire output of Roger Williams in the frame as it turned in another 25-20 win to complete the sweep.Â
Springfield will play a pair of matches on Saturday, beginning with a battle with Bowdoin at 11 am before taking on Brandeis at 1 pm.
