Women's Volleyball Opens RIT Invite With Sweep of Hamilton

Springfield, Mass. - September 6, 2024 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team opened play at the RIT Invitational with a 3-0 win over Hamilton College.

The Pride, which won by set scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-18, pushed its record to 2-2 on the season. Springfield also entered the weekend receiving votes in this week's AVCA Division III national poll.

Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) and Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) paced the Springfield offense with nine kills apiece while hitting over .360 on the night. Billet added 11 digs, six aces and two assists, while Voltz tallied a pair of solo blocks for the Pride. Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) had a strong night as well totaling three kills, six digs and six aces, while Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) hit a team-best .455 with six kills on 11 swings. Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) and Megan Kirtyan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) combined for 30 assists in the three-set sweep.

Hamilton jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set one before a swing by Billet sparked a 13-2 run for Springfield to go ahead 14-7. The spurt that featured two kills from both Billet and Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) was capped by a block from James and Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii). The Continentals got three points back but Springfield outscored Hamilton, 11-4, down the stretch concluding with a swing from Donahue to take the first, 25-15.

In the second, the Pride raced out to an 11-1 advantage and never looked back. Springfield hit .524 in the second powered by four kills by Voltz and four aces by Billet. Up by 12 late in the set, a kill by Voltz, paired with two swings by Keaveney and an error by Hamilton wrapped up the second, 25-10.

As they did in the second, Springfield posted a big lead early on - this time 11-2 - as the Pride went on to secure the sweep. Springfield allowed Hamilton to get as close as four at 18-14, but a 5-2 match-ending run powered by two kills and a block by Keaveney capped the three-setter for the Pride.

Springfield will wrap up the RIT Invitational tomorrow morning with a match against Brockport at 11:00 am and the host Tigers at 1:30 pm.
