Williams Comes From Behind to Defeat Men's Basketball, 67-49

Williamstown, Mass. – January 6, 2025 – Williams College surrendered just 11 points in the second half as the Ephs earned a come from behind win over the Springfield College men's basketball team, 67-49, in non-conference action on Monday evening in Chandler Gymnasium.

Williams improved to 9-3, while Springfield dipped to 4-6.

Springfield was led by Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.), who posted ten points in addition to four rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Williams received 25 points from Alex Lee as he shot 9-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-5 from long range.

Springfield raced out to a 14-4 lead over the opening 6:04 of the contest as the Pride knocked down seven of the first nine shots taken tonight. Flynn scored six of Springfield's first 14 points before a layup from Josh Hartley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) forced Williams to burn a timeout.

The homestanding Ephs put together a brief 10-5 run of their own to cut Springfield's edge to just five points at 19-14, but Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) buried a trey off a pass from Cedric Rodriguez (Burlington, Mass.) to end the spurt. Springfield maintained its lead and built its biggest differential of the half of 12 points at 29-17 following a layup from Hunter Matteson (Dartmouth, Mass.). Williams, however, outscored Springfield by a 12-7 margin over the final 3:21 of the stanza as the Pride took just a five point lead into the halftime break.

Williams scored the first seven points of the second half and took its first lead of the game at 40-38 following a three point play from Sammy Cooley forcing Springfield to call a timeout. A free throw by Curtiss Blische (Barkhamsted, Conn.) out of the timeout broke Springfield's 4:13 scoreless drought, but ultimately Williams outscored Springfield by a 22-5 margin over the first 12 minutes of the second half en route to the 67-49 win.

Springfield converted just four times from the floor in the second half after shooting 66.7-percent (16-for-24) over the opening 20 minutes of play.

Springfield will travel to Wheaton for a NEWMAC tilt on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
