Northfield, Vt. – November 1, 2025 – Behind a season-high 539 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground, the Springfield College football team picked up a 48-6 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over Norwich University at Sabine Field on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield, now winners of five straight improved to 6-2 overall and to 5-0 in NEWMAC play, while Norwich dipped to 1-7, 0-5. The Pride will host Coast Guard next Saturday in a contest that will likely determine the league's conference champion as the Bears also sit at 5-0 in the NEWMAC standings with two weeks left on the schedule.
Springfield, Division III's second-best rushing offense this season, ran for 539 total yards on the ground on 68 attempts, while holding Norwich to just 118 yards of total offense. Individually,
TJ Welch (Shrewsbury, Mass.)rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns, while
Stanford Davis (Montague, N.J.) also eclipsed the century mark with 101 yards on the ground.
Cam Pedro (Cumberland, R.I.) found the back of the end zone twice, while
Andrew Soltys (Ware, Mass.) and
James Green (Gales Ferry, Conn.) accounted two additional touchdowns for the Pride. Defensively,
Hunter Hayes (Auburn, Maine) once again led the Pride with nine total tackles including one for a loss.
Springfield and Norwich traded touchdowns in the first quarter before Green capped off a ten play, 48-yard drive with a score from the one yard line giving the Pride a 14-6 lead – a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the game. Springfield took over possession of the ball with 5:35 remaining in the second quarter and after seven plays the Pride sat at their own 45 yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage out of the timeout, Welch broke free for a 55 yard rush to the end zone extending Springfield's lead to 20-6 heading into the break.
Springfield was forced to punt on its first drive out of halftime and while Norwich was forced to do the same,
Tyler Paladino (Cross River, N.Y.) returned the ball 83 yards from the Pride 17 to the end zone for a 27-6 lead. Pedro capped the scoring in the third with a 16 yard touchdown rush following nine play, 68 yard drive as Springfield held a 34-6 lead through 45 minutes of play.
Pedro and Soltys both found the back of the end zone in the fourth as Springfield went on to win by a 48-6 final. Springfield's 48 points marked a season high today.
