Rochester, N.Y. - November 15, 2025 - The Springfield College men's basketball team beat Buffalo State in the consolation game of the 2025 Chuck Resler Tournament, 76-47, this afternoon.
Springfield gets its first win of the season and is now 1-2 while Buffalo State is now 2-1.Â
It was a total team effort for the Pride as 14 different student-athletes scored for Springfield including 51 points coming from the bench. Josh Hartley (Brooklyn, N.Y. ) led the Pride with 10 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) and Hunter Matteson (Dartmouth, Mass.) had nine points while Evley had six rebounds and Matteson had five. Zander Robinson (East Hartford, Conn.) dished out four assists and seven different student-athletes had steals. For his effort this weekend, Hartley was placed on the All-Tournament team.
The Pride came out and took a quick lead after a basket from Cedric Rodriguez (Burlington, Mass.) capped off a 7-0 run to force a timeout from Buffalo State within the first two minutes of the game. Springfield's offense continued to explode and finished the first half with a 40-20 lead over the Bengals. Matteson and Evely scored seven of their nine points in the first half.Â
Springfield started the scoring off in the second half with a pair of free throws made by John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.). Springfield then went on to outscore Buffalo State by ten with five minutes to play. The Pride shot 43.8-percent from the floor in the second half to continue their dominant performance.Â
Springfield shot 44.2-percent from the floor (30-for-67), 23.8-percent from beyond the arc (5-for-21), and drained 11 of 15 shots from the free throw line (73.3-percent) while Buffalo State shot 25.9-percent from the floor (14-for-54), 11.8-percent from three point range (2-for-17), and 65.4-percent from the charity stripe (17-for-26).Â
As a team, the Pride had 25 more rebounds than the Bengals, scored 42 of its 76 points in the paint, and scored 18 points off of 19 Buffalo State turnovers.
The Pride will host Amherst in their home opener on Tuesday, November 18 at 7:00 pm in Blake Arena.Â
