Women's Volleyball Swept By Babson in NEWMAC Semifinals

Cambridge, Mass. – November 15, 2025 – The third-seeded Springfield College women's volleyball team was swept by second-seeded Babson College by scores of 25-23, 25-14, 25-21 in the semifinal round of the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon on the campus of MIT.

Springfield now sits at 23-7 and will have to wait until Monday to find out if the Pride will earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, while Babson, 22-6, advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament Championship match tomorrow against MIT. As for the NCAA Power Index, both MIT and Babson are safe at-large teams in the NCAA field regardless of tomorrow's result.

Springfield and Babson met for the second time in the span of a week with the same outcome taking play as the Beavers swept the Pride. Springfield's offense was led by Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) with nine kills in addition to a team-best 12 digs. Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii)Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) and Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas) all recorded eight kills apiece as Springfield hit .217 with 37 kills in the match. Both Saelua and James paced the Pride with five blocks, while Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) dished out 32 assists and had ten digs of her own. Devon Burke led Babson with ten kills and hit .364 today for the Beavers.

Springfield held a 23-19 lead in the opening set, but Babson went on to score the final six points of the set which came on a trio of kills by Liberty May, a swing by Zoe Ackerman and an ace by Sabrina Frosk. Babson won the first 25-23 and all momentum shifted in its favor after that.

The Beavers raced out to a 14-5 lead in the second and Springfield never got closer than ten. An ace by Angelina Holm and a kill by Alisa Munro secured the second, 25-14. IN the middle set, Babson hit .500 (15-2-26).

In a much closer third, Springfield cut its deficit to just two at 9-7 following a block by Saelua and James, but May ignited a run of four straight points for Babson making the score 13-7. Babson led 22-14, before Springfield came alive with seven of the next eight points as James and Saelua took charge with two kills apiece making the score 23-21. However, out of a timeout, a Springfield service error and an ace by Ackerman secured the three set sweep for Babson.

Springfield and Babson have now met five times in the NEWMAC Tournament and the Beavers have come away with four victories. The lone win from Springfield came in the 2021 semifinal in Babson Park.
