Springfield, Mass. – November 16, 2025 – The Springfield College football team is headed back to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the fifth consecutive season as it was announced on Sunday during the selection show on NCAA.com. This qualification marks the 11th time in program history that the Pride will participate in the national tournament.
Springfield (8-2) will match up with Cortland (8-2) in a first round game on Stagg Field on Saturday, November 22 at noon. This will be the second straight season that the Pride and Red Dragons will meet in the NCAA Tournament as a year ago, Springfield traveled to Cortland and knocked off the second-ranked team in the country, 40-28, to advance to the national quarterfinals for the first time since 2000.
Head coach
Mike Cerasuolo led the Pride to its fifth-straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship following a 7-0 record in league play. Springfield officially clinched the league's automatic berth to the tournament following a 30-10 win over Coast Guard back on November 8 and secured its 33rd straight NEWMAC win after yesterday's 23-7 victory over Maritime.
Springfield will enter the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament as the nation's top rushing team averaging 347.3 yards per game on the ground. In fact, Springfield is ranked second across all NCAA Divisions (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III) in rushing yards per game only behind Division II Harding (460.1). Springfield also boasts one of the best defenses in Division III allowing just 11.8 points per game, 196.5 total yards per game and 54.8 rushing yards per game.
Since the NEWMAC began sponsoring football in 2017, Springfield has been to the national tournament six times, and prior to the current run, the Pride made the Division III tournament in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2017.
More information about Saturday's game including streaming, tickets and a full preview will be made available later this week.
