Men's Basketball Topped by Bowdoin

Brunswick, Maine - November 25, 2025 - The Springfield College men's basketball team were topped by non-conference opponent Bowdoin, 97-63, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 4-1 while the Pride drop to 2-4.

Josh Hartley (Brooklyn, N.Y. ) led Springfield with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks while Cedric Rodriguez (Burlington, Mass.) had 13 points and two steals. John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.) dished out four assists and had three steals. Ajay Lopes (Wareham, Mass.) and Hunter Matteson (Dartmouth, Mass.) chipped in with seven points apiece and Matteson added five rebounds. 

After exchanging the first two baskets of the game, Bowdoin pulled out to a 16-4 lead after going on a 14-0 run in the first five minutes of the half. Hartley broke up the run, but the Polar Bears continued to dominate and took a 23-8 lead force a timeout from the Pride. Matteson completed a three-point play to cut the lead in half, before Bowdoin went on a 12-4 run powered by a combined ten points from Ray Cuevas and Mason Dawkins. Rodriguez got hot down the final stretch of the first half hitting four straight baskets, including two from beyond the arc, for a 10-0 run to cut Bowdoin's lead to 40-28 with three minutes left in the half. Bowdoin came back to score the last four points of the half to lead 46-32 going into the halftime break. 

After the Pride shortened the gap on Bowdoin's lead at the end of the first, the Polar Bears continued to dominate and were leading by 21 points just four minutes into the second half. Through the first ten minutes of the half, Bowdoin took a 68-48 lead as Cuevas powered the Polar Bears with 13 points. They then went on a 10-0 run for a 31 point lead - their biggest lead of the game - before finishing out the game with a 97-63 win. 

Bowdoin shot lights out, shooting 55.9-percent (38-for-68) from the floor, 61.1-percent (11-for-18) from beyond the arc, and were 10-for-16 (62.5-percent) from the free throw line. Springfield shot 35.6-percent (26-for-73) from the floor, 25-percent from three-point range after only making three shots from beyond the arc, and were 8-for-14 (57.1-percent) from the charity stripe. The Polar Bears also outrebounded the Pride 51-36, but also had four more turnovers. 

Springfield will host its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the season on Wednesday, December 3 for a 7:00 pm tip-off against Wheaton (Mass.).
