Cambridge, Mass, - November 8, 2025 - Making its first appearance in the final round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament since 2021, the second seeded Springfield College women's soccer team fell to top seed and nationally-ranked No. 8 MIT, 3-0.
The Pride finish their season 11-9 overall while MIT's win brings their overall record to 20-2-1. MIT claimed the NEWMAC's automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament with selections set to be revealed on Monday morning.
Springfield, which started its season at 1-6, ended its first campaign under
Kursten Shade by winning seven of its final eight contests to reach the championship game in Cambridge.
Just twelve minutes into the game, Alice Vranka connected with Natalie Barnouw - the Engineers top goal scorer - to take an early lead. Barnouw scored another goal in the 24th minute to put them up by two.
In the second half, Chloe Dai sent a pass to Lauren Won who netted one to give the Engineers the 3-0 win.
MIT outshot Springfield 22-5 and led 12-1 in corner kicks.
Mairead Marsden (Amsterdam, N.Y.) had six saves in the loss.
