Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 13/14 Trinity Uses Second Half Rally to Get Past Women's Basketball

Springfield, Mass. – December 8, 2025 – In its final contest of the calendar year, the Springfield College women's basketball team fell to No. 13/14 Trinity College (Conn.), 58-49,  on Monday evening in non-conference action from inside Blake Arena.

Trinity improved to 8-1 overall, while Springfield dipped to 6-4.

Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) led Springfield with 12 points to go along with seven boards, two assists, two steals and a block, while Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) notched eight points, nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and block. Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Ruth Boles (South Portland, Maine) came off the bench for the Pride to contribute ten points on a 5-for-9 shooting effort tonight.

After Trinity scored the first four points of the game, Springfield ripped off 14 straight points over a stretch of just three minutes. Leary began the scoring with a jumper before she stole the ball and tied the score at four off a fast break layup. Over the back half of the stretch, Finney knocked down a pair of shots from behind the arc as the Pride sat in front 14-4.

Lucy Dorion answered with a three of her own for the visitors, but were unable to gain the lead for Trinity as Springfield held an 18-14 edge through ten minutes of play.

Lucas opened the second with a jumper off a feed from Ella Stair (Newington, Conn.) before Trinity scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 23-22 lead. Melissa Whitmore knocked down a shot from long range and Marlo Simms buried a jumper for Trinity's first lead of the game. With 3:18 left in the half, Lucas hit a pair of free throws igniting a brief 7-0 spurt that also featured a jumper from Lucas and a trey by Lopez in the corner off a long pass from Finney as the Pride took a 33-29 lead into the break.

In a low scoring and back and forth third quarter, the score was tied on two different occasions as the game entered the fourth with Trinity ahead 42-40. The two teams combined for just eight field goals in the quarter, but the Trinity defense held Springfield to just three of those buckets. A jumper by Boles gave Springfield a 40-37 edge, but points from Carbonaro, Dorion and Marzo made it 42-40.

Kiki Fossbender buried a corner three off a pass from Marzo to open the third before she completed an and-one play to make it 48-42. Trinity ultimately scored eight of the first ten points of the fourth and never looked back en route to the 58-49 final. Trinity outscored Springfield 29-16 in the second half and held Springfield to just seven made field goals (21.8-percent shooting percentage) over tonight's second half.

As a team, Trinity held a 49-38 advantage on the glass and scored 28 points in the paint. Springfield turned 12 Trinity turnovers in 16 points.

Springfield will return to action on January 1, 2026 and will open the Naismith Classic with a tilt against Rivier University at 5:00 pm. Springfield will also welcome No. 25/RV Colby and RV Cortland to Western Massachusetts for the two-day tournament.
