No. 6 Men's Volleyball Rolls Past Arcadia to Finish Third at Morgan Classic

Springfield, Mass. – February 15, 2025 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team rolled past Arcadia University in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-16 in the consolation match of the 2025 International Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic on Saturday evening in Blake Arena.

Springfield, which was ranked No. 6 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Division III national poll, improved to 9-2, while Arcadia dropped to 4-8. At the conclusion of the tournament, Springfield's Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) and Arcadia's Tucker Elicio were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Joey Preische (Penfield, N.Y.) led the way offensively for the Pride with seven kills to go along with five digs, while Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) produced six kills on ten errorless swings. AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.) added six kills while Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and DesLauriers swung for three kills on three attempts for the Pride.

Springfield hit .563 with 12 kills on 16 swings in the first and rolled to the 25-15 win. Both DesLauriers and Rouleau led the charge with three kills apiece in the opening stanza with Seveland adding two kills of his own. The Pride raced out to a 10-1 lead following an ace by Giancarlo Carrion (San Juan, Puerto Rico) before pushing the lead to 11 at 15-4 on an ace by DesLauriers. Kills from Preische and Costley gave Springfield the first.

Springfield registered a match-high 13 kills on 26 swings in the second as Costley recorded five of the kills for the Pride. Trailing 4-2, Springfield ripped off seven straight points to go ahead 9-4 on three straight aces from Seveland. After trading points down the stretch, Preische and Costley once again registered back-to-back kills to end the set, 25-16.

Up two in the third, Springfield went on a 6-1 run to balloon its lead to 15-9 as Preische recorded three of the Pride's kills over the stretch. A swing by Samer Kayed (Dubai, UAE) and an error by Arcadia secured the sweep for Springfield.

Springfield will travel to Russell Sage on Tuesday at 6:00 pm for its next match.
