Women's Basketball Secures Postseason Berth With 56-48 Win at Clark

Worcester, Mass. – February 19, 2025 - The Springfield College women's basketball team secured a berth in the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament with a 56-48 road win at Clark University on Wednesday evening.

Springfield improved to 14-10 overall and 6-4 in NEWMAC play, while Clark fell to 11-13, 3-7.

Angie Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) headlined the Pride with her ninth double-double of the season via 19 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the floor and 13 rebounds. Both totals were game-highs. Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) also filled the stat sheet with 13 points, four assists, two rebounds, and a pair of steals, while Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) chipped in with six points and six rebounds and Kassidy Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) notched three points and brought down nine boards.

Trailing 43-39 with 6:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, Springfield answered Clark's comeback attempt with a 15-0 run over a 5:23 span to put the game away.

Ella Stair (Newington, Conn.) got the offense going when she splashed a left-wing three-ball at 5:28 to cut the deficit to one. A steal from Lucas on the other end set up an eventual top of the key three-pointer for Finney, and the Pride were off and running up 45-43 with less than five minutes to play.

Lucas followed with a layup at 2:19 before Madison Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.), Stair, and Finney closed out the run at the free throw line for the Pride converting seven times down the stretch. The four-point lead proved to be the largest advantage on the scoreboard for Clark all night.

Springfield began the game up 13-3 following a layup from Czeremcha before Clark went on a 12-2 run to eventually tie the score at 15 early in the second quarter. The teams traded buckets and then with 2:33 remaining in the half, Finney converted three layups as Springfield held a 25-22 edge at the break.

Springfield led for the majority of the contest which featured eight lead changes and five ties.

The Pride won the battle on the glass (43-37), held a plus-five differential in assists (18-13), outscored Clark 25-16 off turnovers, and 30-16 in the paint.

Springfield will close out the regular season at home against Emerson this Saturday at 1:00 pm. Prior to the game, the Pride will honor its senior class.
