Springfield, Mass. – February 8, 2025 – The Springfield College men's basketball used a 15-0 run midway through the second half to secure a 70-52 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Babson College on Saturday afternoon in Blake Arena.
Springfield improved to 9-12 overall and to 6-6 in the NEWMAC, while Babson dropped to 13-9 overall and to 7-6 in the league. This marks the second straight season that the Pride and the Beavers have split the season series with both teams winning on their home courts in all four contests.
Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) guided Springfield with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the floor to go along with five boards, two assists and two steals.
Cedric Rodriguez (Burlington, Mass.) added 13 points, five rebounds and a block,
Josh Hartley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted 12 points, one steal and a block, while
John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.) led Springfield with seven rebounds and four helpers.
Reece Samuels (Upper Marlboro, Md.) came off the bench and knocked down a pair of deep shots from behind the arc to finish his day with eight points. Nate Amado led Babson with a 14 point, 12 rebound double-double.
Leading by just four in the first, 19-15, Springfield went on a 13-2 run over the next six minutes to balloon its lead to 15 points, 32-17. Over the stretch, Springfield shot 6-for-8 from the floor and saw five different student-athletes register at least a point as both Flynn and Blische posted four points apiece. Flynn ignited the run with a layup following an offensive board by Blische. Minutes later a layup from Flynn and a free throw by
Hunter Matteson (Dartmouth, Mass.) capped the spurt for the Pride. Babson scored six of the final eight points of the half, but the Pride took an 11 point advantage, 34-23, into the break.
Babson opened the second half on a 12-4 run that began with a dunk from Timmy O'Toole and saw Amado score four of the team's points over the spurt to cut its deficit to four, 39-35, with 13:27 to play. A trey from Rodriguez, however, ignited another long run for Springfield – this time 15-0, that saw Samuels bury a pair of shots from behind the arc to push Springfield's advantage up to 19, 54-35.
A jumper by Samuel with 2:21 gave Springfield its largest lead of the game of 22 points as the Pride secured the 70-52 home NEWMAC victory over the Beavers.
As a team, Springfield produced its best shooting percentage from the floor this season at 53.7-percent (29-for-54), while holding Babson to its lowest shooting percentage of the season at just 29.5-percent (18-for-61) today. The Beavers also committed its second most turnovers this season (16), which led directly to 19 Springfield points. Springfield registered 48 of its 70 points in the paint and held a 38-37 edge on the glass.
Springfield will host Coast Guard on Wednesday evening in Blake Arena at 7:30 pm.
