Women's Lacrosse Opens NEWMAC Play With 23-3 Win Over Emerson

Springfield, Mass. – March 15, 2025 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse team opened New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a dominant 23-3 win over Emerson College on Saturday afternoon on Stagg Field.

Springfield improved to 4-1 overall and to 1-0 in NEWMAC play, while Emerson dropped to 3-2, 0-1.

Molly Forrest (Wakefield, Mass.) led the offense for Springfield with her first collegiate hat trick. Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.)Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.)Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.)Lily Vey (Foxboro, Mass.) and Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) all recorded two goals apiece for the Pride in the rout. Additionally, Elyse Altland (North Bennington, Vt.), Payton Imhof (Bay Shore, N.Y.)Julia Marsich (Carmel, N.Y.) and Olivia Naughton (Norwood, Mass.) all registered their first collegiate goals this afternoon for Springfield.

Defensively, Eniola Elefontuyi (Niskayuna, N.Y.) registered a game-high four ground balls, while Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.) tallied two caused turnovers. Andresen and Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.)both notched six draw controls for Springfield.

Springfield held control of the game from start to finish posting a 45-9 advantage in shots, a 26-6 differential in ground balls, a 17-12 edge in draw controls and went 14-for-15 on the clear. In net, Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y.) earned the win with three saves in the first half. Both Lindsay Hillemeir (Unionville, Conn.)and Cedar Conrad (Amherst, Mass.) split the second half in their collegiate debut for the Pride.

Springfield scored the first four goals of the game and eventually took an 8-1 advantage after one quarter. Lalancette opened the scoring on an unassisted strike before Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) found Johnson to double the Pride's advantage. Vey and Johnson completed the run as Springfield went ahead 4-0 before Emerson scored for the first time at the 7:43 mark.

Springfield went on to score the final ten goals of the first half as Forrest completed her hat trick with 7:04 to play in the second. Over the stretch, seven different student-athletes found the back of the net for the Pride including Lalancette, Vey, Isabella Mazzi (Niantic, Conn.)Claire Ognibene (New Canaan, Conn.), Vasselin, Andresen and Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine).

Imhof recorded her first career goal on the man-advantage to open the scoring in the third before Springfield went on to add four more in the quarter. Springfield tallied four total goals on the man-advantage and outscored Emerson 4-2 in the fourth en route to the 23-3 final.

Springfield will travel to Puerto Rico for its next contest as the Pride will play Fredonia on Tuesday at noon.
