No. 3 Men's Volleyball Bests Nichols in Four

Dudley, Mass. – March 26, 2025 -  The Springfield College men's volleyball team defeated Nichols College in four sets by scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21 on Wednesday evening on the road.

Springfield, which was ranked No. 3 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Division III national poll, improved to 19-2 with its 11th straight victory. Springfield also entered tonight ranked sixth in the most recent NCAA Power Index (NPI). Nichols evened its record at 13-13.

Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) hit .630 with 19 kills to lead Springfield's offense to go along with two aces and four blocks. Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.) added 15 kills and six digs, while Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) registered 11 kills, four aces and five digs. Carter Durivage (East Greensbush, N.Y.) nearly had himself a double-double with ten digs and nine kills, while Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 50 assists in the win for Springfield. As a team, Springfield produced a season-high 60 kills in the match – the most in a four setter since April 2, 2019 against Lasell.

Tied at 15 in the first, Springfield ripped off six straight points to build its lead to 21-15 following kills from Rouleau and Levinson to go along with three errors from the hosts. Nichols climbed back within two at 23-21, but swings from Rouleau and Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) terminated the set, 25-22, in favor of the Pride.

In the second, Nichols used four straight points on three kills to take a 20-16 advantage and after trading points down the stretch with Springfield, Dylan Knapp and Jack Normandin evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-21 set two win for the Bison.

Springfield led 11-10 in the third and used four aces from DesLauriers and two kills from Durivage to take a commanding 18-10 lead. Nichols never got closer than five points as three kills down the stretch from DesLauriers and an error from the Bison gave Springfield the third, 25-18. Springfield hit a match-best .464 with 14 kills in the third.

Nichols held a 19-18 edge in the fourth, but three errors from the hosts and a pair of aces from Giancarlo Carrion (San Juan, Puerto Rico) gave Springfield a 23-19 edge. Rouleau and DesLauriers teamed up for kills with the match on the line to secure the 3-1 win for the Pride on Wednesday night.

Springfield is slated to host No. 2 ranked Southern Virginia University and St. Joseph's (Long Island) in Blake Arena on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm.
