Women's Tennis Falls to Fourth-Seeded Smith in NEWMAC Quarterfinals

Northampton, Mass. – April 29, 2025 – The Springfield College women's tennis team saw its 2024-25 season come to a close with a 4-1 setback to fourth-seeded Smith College in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield sees its season end with a record of 9-8, while Smith, which improved to 9-9, will travel to MIT on Saturday for the conference semifinals at noon.

Smith gained the doubles point thanks to a 6-0 win at No. 2 from Lili Goshgarian and Clara Goshgarian over Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) and Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) as well as with a 6-1 win at No. 3 from Natazya Simunyola and Sabrina Wang over Natalia Peyon (Hong Kong) and Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia).

Tabitha Bastress won by retirement at No. 6 singles making it 2-0 in favor of the host Pioneers before Lili Goshgarian won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles over Elliott to push Smith within one match of moving on. Before Smith could earn the sweep, Manataweewat took down Clara Goshgarian 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, but that's all Springfield would get as Simunyola topped Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.), 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 to secure Smith's spot in the NEWMAC semifinal round.
