Springfield, Mass. – April 5, 2025 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse rolled to its seventh consecutive win as the Pride topped Wheaton College, 18-4, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.
With the win, Springfield improved to 10-1 overall and to 6-0 in NEWMAC play, while Wheaton suffered its first conference loss of the season and is 7-4, 4-1.
Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and
Isabella Mazzi (Niantic, Conn.) both produced hat tricks for Springfield with Mazzi also collecting an assist to lead the Pride with four points on the day.
Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) tallied two goals and one assist for three points, while
Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) chipped in with a pair of goals as well for the homestanding Pride. Eight other student-athletes for Springfield also found the back of the net today including
Sophie Adams (Wethersfield, Conn.)with her first collegiate goal.
Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.) and
Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) both collected six draw controls, Hibbert and
Kyana Alvarado (Westfield, Mass.) caused two turnovers apiece and
Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) led Springfield with three ground balls. In net,
Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y.) made four stops to push her record to 10-1 for Springfield.
Wheaton's Georgia Qua scored the game's initial goal 4:30 into the contest before two unassisted strikes by Johnson and Mazzi's first goal of the game gave Springfield a 3-1 lead midway through first. Lara Finne capped the scoring for the Lyons in the opening quarter as the Pride held a 3-2 edge through 15 minutes of play.
Springfield blew the game wide open outscoring Wheaton 12-0 over the middle 30 minutes. Mazzi tallied back-to-back markers to start the second completing her hat trick before Lalancette and Roy made it a 7-2 game.
Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.) scored the man-advantage to highlight the third quarter before as the score stood at 12-2 before
Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine), Andresen and Adams all scored in the fourth to account for the 18-4 final.
As a team, Springfield held advantages in shots (33-16), ground balls (18-12) and draw controls (17-7). The Pride also went a perfect 20-for-20 on the clear and 2-for-3 on free position shots.
Springfield will host Westfield State University in a non-conference game on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
