Irvine, Calif. – January 16, 2026 – The top-ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team opened its 2026 campaign with a setback to Concordia Irvine in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-22.
Concordia picked up its first win of the campaign and is now 1-2, while Springfield starts its slate at 0-1.
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was impressive in his 2026 debut as he recorded 12 of Springfield's 24 kills on the evening and hit a team-best .370 on the night. In his first match in the maroon and white,
Nathan Goh (Germantown, Md.) produced four kills, five digs and three aces, while
Joey Preische (Penfield, N.Y.) and
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) both notched three kills for the Pride.
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 21 assists and added four digs to hit stat line this evening.
Concordia hit .403 on the night as a team powered by a combined 23 kills (of 35) from Christian Galoppo (13-2-18, .611) and Ties Cornelissen (10-4-19, .316).
Concordia jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first and eventually led by six at 12-6 before three straight points for the Pride highlighted by an ace from Goh cut Springfield's deficit to just three at 12-9. Later in the set down 17-12, a kill from Durivage, an assisted block by Goh and Cutter and an error by Concordia pulled the Pride within two at 17-15, but that's as close as Springfield got in the eventual 25-20 final in set one. Concordia hit a match-best .391 in the first (13-4-23) and held Springfield to just seven total kills in the stanza.
The second set was even at four after a kill from Durivage and an ace by Mulvaney, but Concordia answered by scoring nine of the next 11 points to extend its lead to 13-6. Late in the set, back-to-back kills from Durivage and Preische pulled the Pride within three at 22-19, but three straight points from the hosts secured the second 25-19.
The final stanza saw the score even six different times and saw the Pride hit a match-best .200 with ten kills. Down 22-19, another swing by Durivage paired with back-to-back aces from Goh evened the score at 22, however, a kill and an ace from Cornelissen paired with a miscue by Springfield finished off the match in straight sets, 25-22.
Springfield will wrap up its trip to California tomorrow with a pair of exhibition matches. The Division III slate begins for the Pride next Friday at Baruch College at 6:00 pm.
