Women's Basketball Picks Up 70-55 NEWMAC Win at Home Over WPI

Springfield, Mass. – January 24, 2026 – The Springfield College women's basketball team outscored WPI 32-18 in the middle quarters to defeat the Engineers by a 70-55 final in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon inside Blake Arena.

Springfield improved to 11-6 overall and to 2-1 in the NEWMAC, while WPI fell to 10-7, 1-2.

Springfield had four student-athletes tally double-digit point totals highlighted by an 18 point effort from Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.). Leary added four rebounds and three assists to her stat line and shot 7-for-11 from the floor this afternoon. Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) recorded 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added 12 points, a team-high six boards, three assists, a steal and a block. Madison Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.) drained three shots from behind the arc and dished out four assists for the Pride as well.

WPI drilled nine of its first 12 shots of the game including three from behind the arc for an early 22-19 lead following ten minutes of play. The Pride went basket for basket with the Engineers and drilled nine shots of their own in the quarter that saw the lead change nine different times. Both teams had the lead for exactly 4:08 of the first. It was Allison Fullem's three that gave WPI a 22-19 lead through one.

The visitors held a 24-19 edge early in the second, but Springfield embarked on an 11-1 run and ultimately outscored WPI 14-5 in the quarter to go ahead by a 30-27 margin. Lopez knocked down a three off a feed from Hess as the Pride took a 33-27 edge into the break.

Springfield took its largest lead of the game – a differential of 18 points – at 48-30 with 3:54 left in the third after Lucas buried a trey off the hands of Stefany Padula (Franklin, Mass.) and Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) drove into the lane for a layup. The Pride maintained its double digit advantage in the fourth as WPI got no closer than 12 en route to the 70-55 final.

Springfield will host Clark University on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
