Springfield, Mass. – January 27, 2026 – In its first meeting with a ranked opponent this season, the No. 1 Springfield College men's volleyball team took down No. 19 Lasell University in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-14 on Tuesday night in Blake Arena.
Springfield pushed its record to 3-1, while Lasell dropped to 5-2.
AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.) guided Springfield with nine kills, four aces, four blocks and eight digs tonight, while
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) hit .500 with eight kills.
Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) and
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) added five kills and two aces apiece, while Kirchhoff notched five blocks for the Pride.
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 23 assists, had two kills and added three digs in addition to a pair of blocks. Jasper Schultz notched nine kills for the visitors.
As a team, Springfield hit .359 with 38 total kills, while the 11 aces marked a season high for the Pride. After a slow start in set one that saw Springfield produce just eight kills, the offense came alive in the second and third with 15 kills in each stanza.
Tied at 15 in the first, swings by Kirchhoff and Seveland pushed Springfield ahead for the final time. The Pride ripped off five of the next six points highlighted by an ace by Kirchhoff and a block by Mulvaney and Cutter making it 22-17. A Durivage kill and an ace from Cutter gave Springfield the first, 25-19.
In the second, Seveland gave Springfield a 17-14 lead, but Lasell fought back to tie the score at 18. A swing by
Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) and an ace from Seveland gave Springfield the edge it needed to win the second. The two sides traded points, but Durivage and Kirchoff traded kills for the 25-22 win in the middle stanza.
Springfield scored the first five points of the third before a block by Seveland and Kirchhoff made it 12-7. A swing by Seveland ignited a run five straight points – a spurt that was highlighted by a pair of kills from
Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) in his first action of the season – that extended Springfield's lead to eight, 17-9. Down the stretch, Springfield received kills from Costley, two from Durivage and a final one from Cutter to secure the set, 25-14, and the sweep.
Springfield will host No. 11 Vassar College on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
