Springfield, Mass. – January 5, 2026 – In its final non-conference contest of the season, the Springfield College men's basketball team dropped a 65-49 decision to Williams College on Monday afternoon in Blake Arena.
Williams improved to 10-2 overall, while Springfield dipped to 3-8.
Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) led Springfield with 14 points, while
Josh Hartley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted ten points and a team-best six boards, which was also matched by
Zachary Campbell (Philadelphia, Pa.). Williams was paced by Jackson Rein and Aidan Yates, who both registered 14 points. Yates also led the Ephs with seven rebounds.
The first five minutes of tonight's game was close with Williams holding a 6-5 edge. A layup from Matt Devine and a dunk by EJ Sommers off a Springfield turnover ignited a run of 15 straight points for the Ephs making the score 18-5 midway through the half. Hartley finished a pass from Campbell to break the run.
With less than five minutes to play in the first, an and-one play by Campbell sparked a crucial 12-3 run for Springfield – a spurt that saw Evely notch five of the Pride's 12 points. Yates buried a shot from beyond the arc with 2:20 left before the break as the score stood at 32-24 in favor of Williams at the break.
Springfield was able to keep its deficit to single digits for the first ten minutes of the second, but back-to-back three point buckets by Yates and Rein made it a 51-36 contest. Williams put together a string of ten straight points in a span of less than five minutes to make it a 21 point lead for the Ephs. The Pride however responded with treys by both
Cedric Rodriguez (Burlington, Mass.) and
RJ Hutt (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), but it wasn't enough as Williams came away with the 65-49 non-conference win.
Williams shot 41.1-percent from the floor, 42.9-percent from three point range and 71.4-percent from the free throw line. Springfield shot 31.0-percent from the floor, 33.3-percent from three point range and 53.3-percent from the free throw line. The Ephs held a 40-39 edge on the glass and scored 28 points in the paint. The Pride turned 13 Williams turnovers into 18 points and tallied 26 points in the paint this evening.
Springfield will host MIT in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
