Springfield, Mass. – February 14, 2026 – Highlighted by
Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) recording her 1,000th career point, the Springfield College women's basketball team defeated Wellesley College, 70-41, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon in Blake Arena.
Leary totaled five points on the day to go along with a team-best eight rebounds in addition to three steals and a block for the Pride.
Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) led Springfield with 20 points on a 9-for-12 effort from the floor, while
Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.) notched 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block and
Madison Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied 11 points, six rebounds and five assists in the win.
With her effort today, Leary became the 19th student-athlete in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Springfield, now winners of four straight contests, improved to 15-8 overall and to 6-3 in NEWMAC play, while Wellesley dropped to 9-13, 3-6.
Springfield made six of its first eight shots from the floor as
Stefany Padula (Franklin, Mass.) and Lopez combined to go three for three from behind the arc as the Pride led 15-3 six minutes in forcing Wellesley to call a timeout. Springfield took an eventual 22-10 lead after one quarter a stanza that saw the Pride shoot 64.3-percent from the floor (9-for-14). Lucas the Springfield with seven first quarter points.
Leary entered the game needing just five points for 1,000 career points this afternoon and drained a three point bucket midway through the second to achieve the historic milestone and pushed Springfield ahead 31-18 at the time. Springfield 18 in the second following an and-one play by Lopez before the Pride notched seven of the final nine points of the half to take a 43-23 lead into the break. In the first half alone, Springfield hit five of its eight attempts from long range.
Wellesley outscored Springfield by an 11-10 edge in the third and notched the first six points of the third quarter, but Springfield did the same tallying the final six points of the frame highlighted by a trey by Lopez for a 53-34 tally after 30 minutes.
Springfield went on to notch 17 points in the fourth en route to the 70-41 final as
Izzy Pazzaglia (Salem, Conn.) and
Ava Mamone (Troy, N.Y.) combined for nine of the team's 17 points in the period.
The Pride outscored Wellesley, 30-16, in the paint and held a decisive 43-26 differential on the glass. Springfield also shot 51.9-percent from the floor and drained half of its attempts from long range (8-for-16) – its third best performance of the year.
Springfield will play two road games to wrap up the regular season beginning on Wednesday with a trip to MIT for a 7:00 pm tip.
